CAPABLE:
creating meaningful connections between students, schools, and area industry
What is CAPABLE?
Custer Alliance for Preparing and Advocating for Business Labor and Education
CAPABLE was created under the direction of the Custer County Education Committee to develop ways to grow our talent pipeline and to give our students more opportunities to explore career pathways available to them locally.
The program’s focus is to coordinate efforts between Custer County schools and area businesses to create programming that will increase the exposure that local students are getting to career opportunities in area businesses, and job readiness skill practice. That programming could come in the form of career days, job internship opportunities, business tours, business partnered classroom projects, mock interviews and resume writing practice, and job shadowing. The idea is that each school will have a chance to tailor the program to the specific needs within their school system.
Development of CAPABLE?
When we began surveying our Custer County high school students, we started to see a new trend. A trend, where our youth are seeing a future for themselves back home in Central Nebraska after they complete school. In order to capture that interest and create an environment that will have careers waiting for them when they make the transition from student to workforce, area school and business leaders from around Custer County have come together to create a new program, called CAPABLE.
Vision of CAPABLE:
Develop future focused youth, by creating meaningful relationships through education and area industry, with the desired outcome that the youth will continue to grow Custer County and become its future leaders.
