Classroom Sponsorships:
CAPABLE has been involved in developing classroom connections K-12. One of the ways to increase business connections throughout our communities is the involvement of the business in the classrooms. The Classroom Sponsorship is a something that was initially developed by two businesses in Broken Bow that have partnered with an elementary class to demonstrate to that class the importance of their business to the community through business tours, classroom presentations, and student visits to the offices. Currently we have a County-wide sponsorship by Adams Land and Cattle Company, who sponsors the third graders in Custer County. The goal is to create connections for K-5 for all Custer County schools by the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

Classroom Presenters:
The most utilized program of CAPABLE to date is that of bringing in Businesses to present to the Classroom. It is the most personable way to reach out to our students and help them understand that businesses want them to find a job or career that exists in Custer County. These presenters not only bring a fresh look to talking to kids about what they do, but also it makes them more personable to the student, and thus allowing the student to dream locally.

HEROs mentoring program
HEROs is a school based one-to-one mentoring program that was developed through a group of community leaders known as the HEROs committee and Broken Bow Public Schools. The mission of the program is to create connections between high school students and elementary students that could not happen otherwise. HEROs empowers high school juniors and seniors as positive role models encouraging our area K-4th grade students to strive for greater success and to achieve their full potential.
The HEROs program was piloted in the Spring of 2015 with 8 mentors and mentees, since then the program has doubled in size locally and tripled in school involvement. The program currently has 19 mentor mentee relationships in Broken Bow and has even expanded a program to Arnold and Sargent. The impact the program has had on area youth has been tremendous, as teachers report growth in the elementary students on a monthly basis. While the ultimate goal is to see individual growth in the mentee, the one on one connection has left a distinguishable impact on each and every mentor, with each growing exponentially in their understanding of civic duty. We are hopeful to continue to grow the program next year to be a K-5th grade program as well as include more area schools in mentoring their students.
